How Awards are Made

  • The Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) uses a formula to determine Expected Family Contribution (EFC)

EFC- is the amount the family and/or student is expected to pay toward the student's educational expenses.
The EFC is deducted from the student's cost of attendence (COA) to determine financial need.

COA -  is an estimate of reasonable and moderate expenses for the period of enrollment.

{COA - EFC = Financial Need}

  • Most financial aid awards are based on a students financial need.
  • The financial aid office prepares an award package that is a combination of grants, scholarships, loans and/or work.
  • The completed financial aid package is submitted to the student for acceptance through an online award notice. The student may accept the package in part or in whole. If certain programs are declined, they will not be replaced with aid dollars from other programs.
